SKETCHES

After reading the article, I started by sketching out some possible concepts for this piece. The favorite sketch of mine was the third one. Since the article mainly comprises numerous struggles of midlife crisis voiced by middle-aged women in general, I found it best to picture several characters of middle-aged woman portraying each point of their struggle explained in the article.

CHARACTER DESIGN AND COLOR PALETTE

Representing diversity is an important detail in my work. Therefore, I drew the characters in various skin tone. I also tried to portray a realistic look by drawing various body shapes, as well as adding realistic details of middle-aged women's bodies such as belly fat, stretch marks, and saggy breasts. Then, since the illustration already included many characters, I focused on using minimum colors for the overall palette to present a clean look.
